Cover Letter to Quad.io

From: Kwynn Buess, developer. See my contact info on my resume.

I found you by searching Atlanta ROWE companies, and I'll come back to that topic. First, I'll make my case for your Node.js dev position—perhaps a hirable case. Then, failing that, I make my case for why you might want to hire me anyhow.

In response to your Node.js posting – My Specific Case for This Job

JavaScript

I've written functionally distinct Chrome and Firefox extensions. The Firefox extension passed the review process and made it to addons.mozilla.org.

I went on several successful merry chases down the OpenERP JS rabbit hole using Chrome's DevTools. I figured out how to get OpenERP's JS libraries to do what I needed.

I've used JS during a number of other web projects.

Node.js

I've never used Node.js, but...

MY GENERAL CASE FOR WHY YOU WANT ME

Just about every project or job I've done involved fast turnaround using a technology I've never used before. After 3+ years of freelancing and scaring up any project I can with any technology, I'm confident enough to simply apply (apparently).

Examples of bragging rights.

My resume.

One Reason Why I'm Very Interested in Quad.io -- ROWE

Hopefully I have piqued your interest as to why you want me; now a few words about why I potentially “want” you. I've been freelancing because constantly working 9am – 5pm wears me out after a few months. It's not the 40(+++) hours; it's the getting up “early” (for me) constantly—my sleep schedule just won't lock on that schedule, so I lose more and more sleep over time.

I could go on about the if-then-elses of work hours, but, given that you're a ROWE, we can save it for later. Let's just say that a ROWE is a possible condition under which I can find a home and become extremely loyal to it.

Background for Those Not at Quad Who Find This Page

ROWE = Results Only Work Environment. Quad did not invent ROWE, but, for background, ROWE at Quad is discussed under the blog entry "Our Philosophy," by Ryan Connelly, Feb 27, 2012. This is at the bottom of the page as of August, 2014.
